When I am thinking about Urban, I worried about Us, as a Millennials
5:57 PM
“ …In recent decades, the world has experienced unprecedented urban growth. In 2015, close to 4 billion people — 54 per cent of the world’s population — lived in cities and that number is projected to increase to about 5 billion people by 2030.” -United Nation
Urban nowadays has increased periodically time by time based on it density. It can also build because of either the high migration or the growth population by the urban citizens itself.
In 2020–2030, Indonesia has been predicted will have 180 millions people in productive ages, and others 60 millions are in unproductive ages. Means that the portion of dependency ratio is 3:1, describing each 3 productive ages have to endure 1 unproductive age. This is kind of great opportunity to be an investment both for human resources and national finance (BKKBN, nd).
“2020 will be the most decisive year for Indonesia. We can opt: Better or worse”
Hasanuddin Ali, Founder and CEO Alvara Strategic Research, concludes that Indonesia in 2020 will have 3 points to face and consider: Urban-Rural composition (How many people living in cities), Middle-class (Citizens with a middle-class earnings), and Millenials. — By the way, i will not present any data refers to those 3 points, in order what i want to write today is about Millenials (only). So, if you wanna see the data, you can boost your click here or here.
Demographic bonus as a trending phenomenon today, shouldn’t be just to node yes or no. There will be so many things to think about and plan for the action. Indonesia’s climax on demographic bonus will be in 2020, while Japan has been experienced it since 1950. So, if we want to see the next 2020 Indonesia, just face toward Japan. Planning our strategic ones to become the most ready millenials is the right thing to do.
How is Japan’s today?
Amazing. Hi-tech. Very good spatial planning. High awareness. Educated. Respect. Intellect.
But,
Busy. High suicide-rate. Low fertility numbers.
Opportunities and challenges. Rhenald Kasali in his book, ‘Strawberry Generation’ describes millenials as a strawberry: looks tough, but fragile. Millenials usually born when their parents settled already, then, it implicates in how parents treat them. Parents then tends to over-protect their children, children then asleep in ease, conduce tactless and afraid to come out from comfort zone.
Therefore, Rhenald in his book often give an emphasize for parents to give challenges for their children. Giving all of their trust to their children, believe they can decide their life by theirs.
Prepare A 2020 Urban Millenials
Millenials shouldn’t limit their sight. They have to set their power of eagle eyes. Brave to face what toward, being welcome for any suggestion, any opinion, anything new to meet the hidden opportunities.
2. Critical thinking
This help us to shape our thoughts. For any news, any issues, try to criticize. Even you are absolutely agree with the statement, but before spread the influence wider, make sure you have criticize it well: why did you agree, what should be that, what if…., etc.
3. Explore anywhere new
Relates to networking and mentality test. Avoiding negative impacts of being so busy with your activities (like Japan’s: High suicide and flow fertility numbers), we have to be active both: real world and social media. Balance them. Try to go for anything makes you happy and find your love. This will keep you enjoying your life.
4. Be creative
Creative thinking, creative working, creative doing. Creative has a wide meaning. One i want to share: creative working. Next, in 2020, this world will be a hi-tech world, less conventional jobs, more virtual jobs. Maybe, there will be no janitor, office boy in an office. It will be substituted by internet of things in smart office, smart building. That’s why millenials should be creative both in making or looking for a job. If you couldn’t find any jobs, then, why don’t you try for start-up?
